The ENG1 is a Seafarer Medical Certificate.
It is an MCA document (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) issued by registered ENG1 doctors, it is now becoming necessary for crew to obtain prior (You can get it in France and the US )as some Charter yachts and some Yacht insurance companies will require this prior to starting on the vessel. It is a basic test and takes about half an hour with the original certificate issued generally on the spot.

Drug Tests are now carried out as normal in the industry so it is advisable to keep clean for at least 4 months prior to looking for work. The most common test apart from urine sample is a hair follicle test that will pick up most drugs consumed in the previous 3 months.
